Governor Daniels to announce property tax plan

Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels will outline his plan for property tax relief for Hoosiers tonight. He will describe his plan during remarks that will be offered for live broadcast at 6 p.m. EDT.

The governor's plan will offer fair, far-reaching and final property tax relief for Hoosier homeowners. He will seek an amendment to Indiana's Constitution to make changes permanent.

The governor's remarks will be available for television and radio broadcast via satellite. Daniels will begin his remarks at 6:01 p.m. EDT.

The remarks also will be available via live streaming at this Web address: www.in.gov/gov. Text of his remarks will be posted on the governor's Web page at www.in.gov/gov  immediately upon conclusion of the address.

The governor has taken a number of steps in the past several months to help property taxpayers and local governments, including extending the deadline for counties to provide dollar for dollar property tax relief by adopting a local option income tax, allowing homeowners to pay property taxes in installments, ordering the Department of Local Government Finance to oversee property tax reassessments in counties as needed, and creating the Blue Ribbon Commission on Local Government Reform to look at and make recommendations about how to reform and restructure local government.
