State Representative Bruce Borders; Don Schulte of Crane; Dan Sichting, Greene County Superintendent; Ron Bush, Greene County Superintendent; Layton Wall, Greene County Superintendent; C.G. Epple, Green County Superintendent; Harry Huber, Director of Greene County Grant Consortium; State Senator John Waterman; and Brad Secrest of CRANE and the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) accept a Rural Capacity Grant award from Lt. Governor Becky Skillman at the awards ceremony in the State House.

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of awarding nearly $1.4 million in Rural Capacity Grants (RCG) that will benefit 26 Hoosier counties, including $150,000 to Greene County.  Greene County Grant and Professional Development Consortium will receive the grant on behalf of five Greene County school corporations including Eastern Greene, Bloomfield, White River Valley, Linton Stockton, and MSD Shakamak. The grant will fund a project to develop a comprehensive career awareness program for K-12 students, implement a career pathways model which utilizes students’ academic strengths, and develop programs that encourage women and minorities to pursue math, science, and technology careers.

It was wonderful to stand in the atrium of the State House and see so many friendly faces in a crowd of nearly one hundred Hoosiers.  Each of you is moving our state forward as leaders in your communities, and I thank you for you commitment and dedication to the community you serve.

As partners in growth for the state of Indiana, rural communities and state government have a great deal to celebrate. Governor Daniels and I have worked hard to foster rural community development and economic growth across the state. We know that local efforts are critical to success, and we commend the people of Greene County for their support.

Indiana has revitalized its economy, and our future certainly is bright.  Thank you for helping us continue to move Indiana forward, one community at a time.
