Lt. Governor Skillman Celebrates Expansion of Willemsen Dairy

Last week I joined Tejo Willemsen and his family in breaking ground on an expansion of their dairy near Frankton. It was a great day for the family and a great day for Indiana, as we celebrated the next step in the Willemsen Dairy’s continued success and Indiana’s progress toward growing its livestock industry. When complete, the Willemsen’s expansion will house up to 6,000 cows.

Originally from the Netherlands, Tejo and Alberdine founded their dairy in 2001. They have quickly become great community supporters. They purchase 80 percent of their feed from neighboring farmers, buy animals at the county fair, and sponsor a local softball team. In return, the community has embraced them, supporting their efforts to expand their business.

Lt. Gov. Skillman, Tejo Willemsen, and Thomas Willemsen break ground at the site of the Willemsen Dairy's planned expansion.

Many of the Willemsen’s friends and neighbors were on hand to help us celebrate.

Indiana has seen tremendous, responsible livestock growth thanks to forward-thinking producers like Tejo Willemsen. He and many other Indiana farmers share the state’s commitment to increase livestock growth while maintaining the highest environmental standards.

The Willemsens may be transplanted Hoosiers, but they epitomize what is best about the people of Indiana—their generous nature and caring spirit.
