Linton Giraffe
Personal Account from Agnes Miller
Well, hello Kegan. How nice your interest is in the giraffe. We purchased
the giraffe with several other animals from Chet Booker in Dugger, In when
we put in the miniature golf course in the late 1980's. I am not sure how
long Mr. Booker had owned the animals. The giraffe has reigned over the area
since then. He is a lovable landmark, and many people are well acquainted
with him. When he was stolen from the property in late winter of this year,
2006, I received telephone calls from elderly people expressing their
affection for the giraffe. Also, mothers expressed how their children missed
seeing him as they passed by. How grateful I am for the good citizenry of
Linton, In. One was considerate enough to call Crime Stoppers to report the
whereabouts of the giraffe when it was stolen from us. She expressed to me,
"I was only doing my duty." Thankfully, what her duty was to her returned
the loved animal to his "home." If one were to purchase a new giraffe today,
he could expect to pay into the thousands. Are we not blessed that our
giraffe found his way back to us? In addition, the Linton police, Debbie
McDonald and Troy Jerrells were most helpful in safely getting our animal
back to his home. Hopefully, when the weather warms more, we will be able to
repair the giraffe's body, and then he can stand proudly for a few more
years.
Sincerely,
Agnes M., Sloan, Miller
